If you can overlook the fact that there is still a bit of snow on the ground, Spring is apparently making it’s way to Edmonton. Spring’s arrival also marks the beginning of wedding season for us and Nicohl and Tim’s wedding is coming up in just a few short weeks. We met up with them a couple of weeks ago on a snowy Sunday afternoon to photograph their engagement session.

Nicohl and Tim were so much fun to photograph and Sarah and I had a great time watching them joke around and tease one another. We did most of their shoot indoors since the temperature was still on the chilly side but we did get them to step outside for a few photographs while large soft snow flakes fell to the ground which resulted in some magical photos.

Here are their two dogs – Aloo and Gobi posing for the camera. Aren’t they sooo stinking cute? They are dachshunds mixed with fox terrier. Anytime an engagement session starts out with this much cuteness you know it’s going to be a fun session.

Sumantra wanted to get in close for a smooch with Amanda but the dogs also wanted to get in on the action.

After spending some time in the park with dogs and battling mosquitoes, we dropped the dogs off at their house and headed downtown for an urban engagement session. We started off at the Bank Ultra Lounge which is where their love story began. We had some amazing light and took full advantage of it. Amanda and Sumantra were naturals in front of the camera and didn’t require much direction to come up with some fantastic poses.

We had such a fun night and we can’t wait for Amanda + Sumantra’s two-day wedding in just a few short weeks.

After we were done exploring the farm, we headed back to Edmonton to grab a quick bite and get some liquid encouragement into Jordana since she was nervous about being in front of the camera. I’m sure our viewers will agree that they both did just fine in front of the camera. After enjoying some great Mexican food at Julios, we wandered around Whyte Avenue and had a fun session together. We love engagement sessions because it’s a great way to get to know our clients better and work on some things to make sure they’re looking their best when it comes time to do their wedding photographs. We also love the fact that we generally get shoot when the light is really nice and we don’t have the time pressures you normally have on a wedding day.

Engagement sessions also offer us some insight into what our clients like and don’t like so that when it comes to the wedding day we can make sure that we are taking more of the style of photographs that they like rather than images that we might appreciate from an artistic sense. Some couples like to be silly and goofy while others are more reserved and traditional so we definitely take everyone’s personalities into account. During this session for example, Amanda commented to us that on their wedding day we’ll have to remind her to be more outrageous so you can bet we’ll be holding her to that when the big day arrives.

We had such fun goofing around with Amanda & Kelvin and enjoyed some beautiful light on this particular evening. Can’t wait for the big day to arrive and we are honored that you have chosen us to photograph one of the most important days of your lives. Despite the windy conditions, we found some great spots to photograph Sherena + Clay before we headed to the Muttart Conservatory  to get some shots near the pyramids. The lighting conditions were so amazing and the wind let up briefly to get some great shots in the soft light. We can’t wait for Sherena and Clay’s wedding this September! Here are a few favourites from the session.

We first met Ragan and Jason in the spring after being referred by Ragan’s mom whom we’d met at the Dinner with David Adjey in March. Right away we hit it off and shared the same sense of humor so we knew this would be a fun session. Ragan and Jason are in the process of building their first home so we thought it would be fun to start there and get a few photographs of them in front of their new home. They even came prepared with props – hard hats!

After getting some fun shots at their new house, we headed to a nearby park and lake to take advantage of the wonderful light and fall leaves that were on the ground. Ragan and Jason couldn’t stop smiling and you can really tell that these two are madly in love with one another.

The idea for this next shot was Ragan an Jason’s idea. They say opposites attract. Ragan loves Starbucks. Jason loves Tim Hortons.   It’s an age-old battle similar to the Hatfield’s and the McCoys with no clear cut winner. We had some fun with it anyway.

As the light started to fade, we stopped at another great spot in the west end for a few more photos before heading to the Keg for dinner. The Keg happened to be where Ragan and Jason went on their first date so we had to stop for a few photos outside the Keg before enjoying a delicious dinner together.

Thanks again Ragan & Jason for spending a few hours with us and for an enjoyable dinner afterward. We can’t wait to photograph your wedding next summer.

Needless to say, the whole family seems at home in front of the camera so it didn’t take very long for everyone to warm up the camera and get comfortable.

Leanne and Michael are naturals in front of the camera and Leanne even offered up some excellent suggestions for poses. We’ve got a couple shots lined up for the wedding that she’s going to help me with.
