Here are a few sneak peeks from their wedding day. Can’t wait to share the rest with you guys in a few weeks. Special thanks to our friend Linda Patterson from Timeless Edge Photography for 2nd shooting on Saturday. Sarah is normally our second shooter but due to a family emergency she wasn’t available but thankfully Linda was able to step in and help us out.

The day started at the hotel where we grabbed a few quick photographs of the handsome groom before we headed to the palace for Bansi’s Baraat ceremony. Bansi rode in on a beautiful white horse as friends and family danced and had a great time leading the processional from the main palace to the boat launch.

Bansi was met at the boat launch by Shirin’s family where he received blessings and was welcomed into the family. I love this shot below of Shirin’s mom giving Bansi a tweak on his nose.

We took the boat across the lake to the historic Jagmandir Palace which was built in the 1500′s as a summer palace and place of refuge for the Royal Family. Today the Palace is a historic tourist site and hotel.When we pulled up the Palace guards were all sitting on top of the amazing stone elephant sculptures that lined the front of the palace.

We only had a couple of minutes with Shirin before the ceremony got underway which was just enough time to squeeze in a couple of quick portraits with our stunning bride.

Shirin was carried by her brother and other family members to the alter where the ceremony was performed as the sun set.

After the ceremony was complete, Shirin and Bansi changed outfits and got ready for dinner and speeches.

After dinner, we had time for a brief session with the bride and groom and used the Palace as our backdrop to create some dramatic nighttime images.

Sarah and I had such a great time photographing this fabulous destination wedding and we can’t wait to return to India again to photograph another beautiful couple. Thanks again to Shirin & Bansi and your families for taking such good care of us and making us feel so welcome during your special day. We are Edmonton Wedding Photographers who love to tell your story with our photography. Last week we shared Part I of Shirin & Bansi’s fabulous destination wedding in Udaipur India which featured some engagement photographs that we created for them.

For Part II we are sharing some of our favourite images from the Haldi and Mehndi ceremonies which were held at the beautiful Sheraton Plaza in Udaipur.

The morning started with Bansi’s Haldi ceremony followed by Shirin’s Haldi ceremony. Both were very colorful events that were held in one of the conference rooms at the hotel.

The Haldi ceremony is traditionally where both the bride and groom receive blessings from friends and family and Haldi (a mixture of turmeric, sandle wood, and rose water) is applied to the face, arms and feet. The mixture is intended to give the skin a clean, glowing complexion for the wedding ceremony. It is also supposed to help the skin better absorb the henna during the Mehndi ceremony which followed.

Following the Haldi ceremonies in the morning, we grabbed some lunch and prepared to photograph Shirin’s Mehndi ceremony and the Sangeet reception that followed. Shirin had her Mehndi done in her hotel room and the two talented artists worked on her hands and feet for close to two and a half hours before we headed down to the ballroom for the Sangeet party.

The Sangeet party featured more Mehndi for the guests, a glass blowing station where they made colorful bracelets, fabulous Indian food, and traditional Rajasthani entertainment. Here are some of our favorites from Shirin’s Mehndi ceremony.

Back in December, Sarah and I had the honor of being hired to photograph Shirin and Bansi’s wedding in India! You may recall seeing a few photographs of their destination wedding on the blog a few weeks ago. Since Shirin & Bansi live in Calgary, we weren’t able to get together with them to share the rest of their images until this past weekend. Now that they have seen them, we can now share them with our readers.

We flew from Edmonton to India just before Christmas and met up with Amanda & Sumantra who’s wedding we photographed in Edmonton in the summer. It was great seeing them again and having the opportunity to do a bit of sightseeing together in New Delhi before we flew to Udaipur where the wedding was taking place. We even managed to survive a wild Tuk Tuk ride and crossed a busy 8 lane road with no injuries!

When we arrived in Udaipur, we met up with Shirin and Bansi to tour the venue where the wedding was taking place and to do some engagement photographs. Their wedding ceremony took place at the beautiful Jagmandir Palace which is situated in the middle of lake Pichola in Udaipur city. It is a marble and sandstone palace built in the early 17th century. We were able to spend a bit of time scouting the location and snuck in a few photographs while they attended to some last minute details. Here are a few images from their engagement session.

The day started at Sherena & Clay’s house where we did a first look but it was Hershey stealing the show in the cutest tuxedo we’ve ever seen. He even had a cute little top hat. Unfortunately he couldn’t make it to the wedding because he wasn’t feeling well but at least he was able to participate in some photos while Sherena was finishing getting ready.

After seeing each other for the first time in their wedding attire for their first look, we headed to a nearby farm for photographs with the family and wedding party. The wedding party looked great in purple and black and we tried to keep them in the shade as much as possible as Edmonton is experiencing warmer than usual temperatures for September.

After we were done photographs with the family and the wedding party, it was time to photograph Sherena + Clay. We found a bunch of great locations at this farm and could have spent hours photographing them but we had to get them to the golf course on time to get them married. Here are a few of our favorites from the farm.

After our photo session at the farm, it was off to Red Tail Landing for the ceremony and reception. We were excited to work with the team from Jennifer Bergman Weddings who helped plan and organize the details for the day including some fabulous decor and beautiful reception details. Local singer Erica Viegas supplied the music for the ceremony and cocktail reception that followed. Sherena & Clay also had the cutest flower girl and ring bearers who did a great job.

Their ceremony was beautiful and Sherena was glowing as she was walked down the aisle accompanied by her mom and dad.

After the ceremony, we stole Sherena and Clay away for a few more minutes to take advantage of the beautiful late afternoon light before their reception started.

The weekend started on Friday with an Indian ceremony at the Bharatiya Cultural Centre on the south side. It was our first Indian ceremony and there were so many interesting elements to photograph. It was a very colorful ceremony filled with several important rituals, a few tears, and lots of joy. Amanda looked beautiful in a traditional sari and Sumantra looked great in his traditional robes. Pandit Laxman Sharma and Pandit Pankaj Dixit conducted the ceremony and did a great job of explaining the various rituals to those in attendance who were not familiar with some of the traditions and customs of an Indian ceremony.

The weekend continued on Saturday with a traditional western ceremony held on the back deck at the Edmonton Country Club. Amanda looked radiant in her beautiful gown and there were a few tears shed by everyone in the audience when she walked down the aisle with her father. After the ceremony and family photographs at the golf course, we headed over the University of Alberta to do photographs with the wedding party before returning to Edmonton Country Club for the reception. Here are a few more sneak peeks from Saturday. We can’t wait to share the rest with you once you’re back from your honeymoon!
