Event Moment – Edmonton Women in Business

The April issue of Edmontonians will be dedicated to women in business and will be the 5th Annual Women in Business issue. I had the opportunity to photograph two features for the next issue including three new partners at the law firm of Davis LLP and a round-table discussion with five successful female entrepreneurs.

The round-table was led by Erin Rayner from Ed Marketing (an Edmonton-based marketing and event company), who facilitated the discussion. We met in the conference room of the Alberta Women Entrepreneurs – “a not-for-profit organization that provides a range of tools to help women across Alberta succeed in business.” While there, I actually ran into a former colleague who I used to work with at the YMCA back in my life guarding days (I promise to all my readers that I have retired the Speedo!). Erin was joined by Tracey Scarlett – CEO of AWE, Colleen Madsen from Sandler Training, Jessie Radies from the Blue Pear Restaurant, and Pauline Perreault from Jump Outta Bed Workplace Strategies.

All five women discussed what it means to them to be a female entrepreneur, the challenges they’ve faced, and what it takes to succeed in today’s marketplace. It was an interesting discussion and I gained some valuable female insight towards what it takes to succeed in business. Be sure to pick up the April edition of Edmontonians when it hits newsstands to read Erin’s article.

Here are a few photos from our shoot that day:

  • Very well done session.

  • I was also wondering why did you go with flash slideshow instead of individual shots?

It’s a feature of the ProPhoto theme that makes it very easy to add a batch of photos to a blog post. On mobile browsers or in an RSS reader like Google reader, they show up as inline images so I get the best of both worlds. Ease of use and everyone is able to see the photos – regardless of whether Flash is supported on their device or not.

  • I was looking at the ProPhoto theme, but just couldn’t take the plunge. This feature is very cool though….
