It was supposed to be an outdoor affair in Red Deer but torrential rain and  hurricane force winds resulted in a change of plans for Kim & Conrad’s wedding in Red Deer. But the rain and wind didn’t dampen the couple’s spirit as friends and family gathered at the Black Knight Inn in Red Deer to celebrate their union.

Kim & Conrad were introduced to us by fellow photographer Tom Lim and we were thrilled to photograph their special day which started out at Crystal Orchid Hair Design with the girls getting ready. Afterward, Sarah headed over to get a few shots of the guys getting dressed. While all of this was happening, Kim & Conrad’s amazing wedding planner Lori from Crystal Orchid Weddings, was busy transforming one of the conference rooms at the Black Knight Inn into a beautiful room for their ceremony. Originally they had planned to have their ceremony in a park in downtown Red Deer but a nasty summer storm hit overnight. Brides – this is exactly the reason you should always have a Plan B if you’re planning to have an outdoor wedding in Alberta at any time of year.

After their ceremony, the weather was still pretty bad so we made our way over to Dentoom’s Greenhouse for photographs with the bridal party. Special thanks to Rebecca & her mom for allowing us to take shelter from the storm in your beautiful greenhouse.

Once we were done photographing the happy couple and their bridal party, we headed back to the Black Knight Inn for their reception. Lori did an amazing job with the decor and the room looked amazing. We particularly loved the table markers that Kim & Conrad chose which featured photographs of them at different ages based upon the table number. Such a cute idea!

Kim & Conrad, once again we thank you choosing us to photograph your wedding. We hope you enjoyed your day and will look back on your photographs for years to come with plenty of fond memories.

To be fair we did have a backup plan but cancelled it when we saw how nice pictures with rain were and we hated the thought of an indoor ceremony. We purchased a bunch of cool umbrellas and had arranged for tents and whatnot to be delivered to the ceremony but unfortunately the wind kiboshed that.

Just goes to show no matter how many precautions you think you’ve taken there could always be some type of freak weather you don’t anticipate (if it wasn’t rain and wind it probably would’ve been hail!)

Wow! It’s been a busy few weeks and we have a bunch of weddings that will be hitting the blog over the next few weeks. Next up is Larysa & Dylan. We had a fabulous time getting to know these two and their wedding day was an absolute blast from beginning to end. It was a day filled with plenty of laughs and a few tears. We both started the day photographing Larysa & Dylan getting ready – Bruce with the girls and Sarah with the guys. One of our favourite things during getting ready is when our couples give each other gifts. Larysa gave Dylan an awesome watch and Dylan surprised Larysa with a really cool bike. If we’d had more time I’m sure Larysa would have taken it out for a spin but we had to get to Saint Josaphat’s Cathedral for their ceremony.

We drive past it all the time but this was our first time photographing a wedding at St. Josaphat’s and it’s a beautiful church inside with very ornate decorations and paintings.

After the ceremony we headed down to the Muttart Conservatory for photographs with Larysa & Dylan’s family and the bridal party. We were also joined by the bride & groom’s beautiful German Shepard. The weather held out for the most part and we only had to duck under trees for cover a couple of times.

After photos at the Muttart, the bridal party headed to MKT to enjoy a few refreshments and we took the opportunity to do a few more photographs with the wedding party and happy couple.

From there we headed to the Chateau Louis for their reception and Larysa & Dylan had some great decor including a library themed seating chart complete with old school sign out cards that you’d find in the back of your library books.

Larysa & Dylan, thank you again for choosing us to photograph your wedding and we hope you enjoy your sneak peek. We can’t wait to share the rest of your photographs with you.

A couple of weeks ago, we had the pleasure of photographing Amanda & Ryan’s wedding at the Fairmont Hotel MacDonald. Normally we like to meet our couples in person beforehand but because Amanda and Ryan don’t live in Edmonton, we were only able to meet over phone and email until just a couple of days before their wedding when they came to Edmonton. They were such a laid back couple and we had an absolute blast hanging out with them and their wedding party. Special thanks to Rachel Johnson who helped second shoot this wedding with me while Sarah was attending a family function in Ontario.

We started the day photographing Amanda and her two sisters getting ready at the Hotel MacDonald where their ceremony was going to be held. The Hotel MacDonald is one of Edmonton’s most popular wedding venues and Amanda and Ryan chose to have their ceremony on the back patio so thankfully it was a gorgeous day for them but rain or shine, it’s always a treat when we get to photograph a wedding there.

Amanda’s brother officiated their intimate ceremony which included a sand ceremony to signify two lives coming together as one. Amanda & Ryan’s son was their ring bearer and they also had the cutest flower girl who I think just wanted to have a cup of juice on a hot summer day than walk down the aisle.

After the ceremony we took advantage of the beautiful grounds around the hotel to create photographs with the bride and groom, their families, and their wedding party. In case you couldn’t guess, Amanda’s favourite color is pink as evident from the details and bridesmaid’s dresses. We loved Amanda’s peony bouquet designed by Janine at faBLOOMosity – one of our favourite florists.

Once we finished photographing the happy couple and their wedding party, we headed into the Wedgwood room for their reception which was a nice laid back affair featuring a delicious meal and a fabulous candy bar complete with chocolate fountain.

Thanks again Amanda and Ryan for choosing us to photograph your wedding in Edmonton and we can’t wait to share the rest of your images with you.
