After a busy summer of photographing weddings, the fall season traditionally lets us switch gears to focus on family and engagement sessions. Fall in Edmonton is normally our favorite time of year with the mild temperatures, beautiful fall colors, sweet light, and only the occasional bit of rain. The only bad thing about fall in Edmonton for photographers is that it’s often way too short. Typically there is a short window of opportunity for photography which lasts for around 2 weeks. This is the time where the leaves have all changed to the beautiful reds, yellow, and oranges and they are still attached to the trees. Within a week, all it takes is for a bit of a breeze to blow and suddenly all of the trees drop their leaves and the landscape turns a barren brown as it awaits the first snowfall of the year.
In late September we took advantage of a gorgeous fall day to do a family session with our friends Nina and Brad and their two kids Danika and Hunter. We’ve known Nina and Brad for a few years now and spent some time traveling with them to the Dominican Republic a few years ago. We were so excited when Nina called us up to do a family session for them since we hadn’t seen Danika since that trip and it would be our first time to meet Hunter. We headed down to Hawrelak Park in the late afternoon for a fun family session among the rich fall colors of the river valley. Danika and Hunter were naturals in front of the camera and we had a great time playing the fresh leaves and exploring the trails in the park.
Here are a few of our favorites from our time together.
