On Wednesday evening, the International Special Events Society of Edmonton held their annual event for wedding industry professionals at the Art Gallery of Alberta in downtown Edmonton. WEDmonton is one of the premiere networking events for anyone involved in the wedding or event industry in Edmonton. This years’ event featured a live floral competition where six teams of florists competed in a themed competition. Each florist was given a $150 budget and 1.5 hours to create a stunning floral arrangement which was then judged by a team of judges along with the guests attending the event. The twist on this year’s event was that each team was required to incorporate a vase supplied by Etc. Event Styling and Decor into their design. Each team drew a random number which determined the order in which they got to pick the vase that they had to work with. The theme for this year’s competition was “A Monet Love Affair”
Normally when we photograph a wedding or event, we don’t often get to see the decor and floral arrangements being created so it was fun to watch these creative artists produce their creations under intense pressure and tight timeframes all while being watched and judged. Congratulations to all of the participants which included: Flowers by Merle, Fleurs Flowers, Two Buds Floral Artistry, Laurels on Whyte, & Flowers in the Park. Special thanks to Heather & Iris from Heather De Kok Floral Design & Rene Dunger from Vienna Intention Floral & Event Design who were the judges for this event.
In addition to the floral competition, the evening featured fabulous food courtesy of Zinc Restaurant, a ballroom dancing presentation from Arthur Murray Dance Studios, and guest speakers Stacey Knopp from Yegwed and Heather De Kok from Heather De Kok Floral Design. Moments in Digital was delighted to sponsor the event and work alongside other great vendors & sponsors including NAIT, Invert720, Special Event Rentals, River City Events, Florists Supply Ltd., & Petals West.
